I hadn't been to the ocean in 3 years. While that may not seem like a long time to most people, I grew up going to the ocean every year, for 14 years. So this period of absence felt like an eternity. During my trip to Vancouver, I walked to Stanley Park and its Seawall trail. From the moment I could smell the salt and seaweed, my mind felt at ease.
The contrast between the mountains and the ocean in Vancouver makes the city even more stunning. While the heart of the city was not what I had expected, and frankly not entirely something I enjoyed, the sea-facing areas and buildings felt fresh and far more welcoming.
